恶性肿瘤作为全球较大的公共卫生问题之一，极大地危害人类健康，并将成为新世纪人类健康的第一杀手。而恶性肿瘤的疾病管理和医疗数据存储也面临着极大挑战。首先，病历作为传统的医疗数据资料存储模式，已无法满足对肿瘤患者的疾病信息管理和对数据进行挖掘利用；其次，随着计算机技术日新月异，作为其中的一大领域的数据库技术，得到了前所未有的发展，随着互联网优势的充分体现，Web数据库技术在肿瘤数据存储及管理的应用也日益增加。现介绍几种常用的Web肿瘤数据库技术，以及基于Web的肿瘤数据库系统的开发模式和国内外Web肿瘤数据库的发展现状。
