  • Employment Intentions to Primary Health Service Organizations among Medical Students in North Sichuan Medical College: A Questionnaire Survey

    Objective To get known about the employment intentions to primary health service organizations (PHSO) among medical students in North Sichuan Medical College, and to assess its main influencing factors, so as to provide scientific evidence for occupational guidance in medical colleges, as well as talent introduction and retention in PHSO. Methods By cluster sampling method, medical undergraduates and college students in North Sichuan Medical College were investigated using a self-designed questionnaire from April to October, 2010. EpiData 3.1 and SPSS 16.0 software were used for inputting data and analyzing respectively. Results a) Among 900 questionnaires distributed, 870 were reclaimed (response rate 96.7%). b) Nearly 60% of medical students thought their own professional development was “average”, with following intentions after graduation in order: employment first and then postgraduate entrance exam, employment, postgraduate entrance exam; and 85% of medical students were more willing to work in medical institutions above level-2 in city or county. c) More than 70% of medical students’ employment intentions to PHSO were “average”, and “unwilling”, etc.; the main influencing factors were personal development space, salary and welfare, and comprehensive strength of hospital, etc. d) More than 90% of medical students “Do not know” or “generally” understood the related national preferential policies. Conclusion Government, PHSO and universities should take measures together and increase policy advocacy and infrastructure investment, so as to encourage medical students to work in PHSO.

  • Analysis of Knowledge and Attitude Related to Evidence-Based Medicine Course in Clinical Medical Students

    Objective To investigate the effects of evidence-based medicine (EBM) course on clinical medical students and to propose teaching advice. Methods Using a predesigned questionnaire, we conducted an investigation on the literature retrieval, knowledge of EBM terms, and subject attitude of clinical 5-year and 7-year medical students before and after EBM course, and then an interview was performed to collect the opinions of the students. Data was statistically analyzed. Results After the course, average reading time and frequency of literature retrieval increased significantly compared to the situation before EBM course (Plt;0.05). Knowledge levels of main EBM terms related to practice increased significantly (Plt;0.05). 5-year medical students’ ability of literature appraisal also increased (Plt;0.05). In this interview, these students suggested that course time of literature retrieval and screening should increase and medical statistics should be reviewed. Conclusion Through the study of EBM course, both knowledge and attitude of students changed a lot, and combining case teaching with EBM course has a better teaching effect. Learning the concepts and techniques of EBM for clinical medical students can help them apply medical research evidence correctly in clinical practice, and train their self-learning ability.

  • Medical Education Model with Core Competency as Guide, Evidence-Based Medicine as Carrier and Life Learning as Purpose (4): Effects of Evidence-Based Medicine Course on Improvement of Information Consciousness and Morality for Medical Students

    Objective To explore the effects of evidence-based medicine (EBM) course on improvement of information consciousness and information morality for medical students.Methods A total of 288 medical undergraduates and postgraduates, who took EBM as an elective course in Sichuan University, were surveyed with ‘information consciousness and information morality questionnaire’ before and after that course. Results After the EBM course, the number of students surfing the Internet increased by 5%, of which postgraduates increased by 24% with significant differences (Plt;0.05), while their purpose for specialized knowledge increased by 7%; the number of students making plans in advance increased by 7%, and the number of students learning intellectual property and copyright law increased by 7%; the number of postgraduates knowing how to cite articles increased by 12% with significant differences (Plt;0.05); and the number of students not knowing how to get legitimate information decreased by 12% with significant differences (Plt;0.05). Conclusion Evidence-based medicine course is positive for the information consciousness and information morality of medical students.

  • An Epidemiology Study on Child Behavior Problems among High-Grade Primary School Students in Chongqing Urban Area

    Objective To explore the prevalence and related factors of behavior problems among the high-grade primary school students (in Grade 4 to Grade 6) in Chongqing urban area. Methods By means of cross-sectional survey, a total of 3 137 high-grade primary school students in Chongqing urban area were investigated with Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL, version for parents) and self-designed basic information questionnaire. Results The relevance ratio of behavior problems was 27.26%. The univariate analysis revealed that type of school, grade, residential and family environment, and parental attitude toward children had effects on children’s behavior problems with significance difference (Plt;0.05). The stepwise regression revealed that grade, educational level of father, healthy conditions of parents, family structure, academic performance and parental attitude toward children were the independent and main influencing factors (Plt;0.05). Conclusion The relevance ratio of behavior problems among high-grade primary school students in Chongqing urban area is much higher, which is related to the following factors: family situation, parental attitude toward children, social and school environment. It indicates that the status of children’s mental heath is not optimistic in Chongqing urban area. Comprehensive measures combining family, school with psychologist should be taken to reduce the prevalence of behavioral problems.

  • Research on the Relationship between Mental Health Status and Perceived Social Support among Middle School Students from Wenchuan Earthquake Hit Area

    Objective To investigate the mental health status, perceived social support, as well as the relationship between them among middle school students in Wenchuan Earthquake region, so as to provide references for the relevant department to formulate appropriate strategies and intervention measures. Methods A cluster sampling method was adopted to select all 1698 students (excluded the students in Grade 3) as the research subjects from three middle schools in the disaster regions. All students were investigated with self-designed basic information questionnaire, Symptom CheckList 90 (SCL-90) and Perceived Social Support Scale (PSSS) through self-administered questionnaire. Results The overall positive rate on the SCL-90 was 46.3% among 1690 students, of whom 66.6% had mild psychological problems and 26.5% had moderate to severe psychological problems. The positive rate on the SCL-90 and the score for each factor of SCL-90 were statistically higher in the female students than male students (Plt;0.05). Compared with the senior middle school students, the score on the phobic anxiety subscale of the SCL-90 was statistically higher in the junior middle school students (Plt;0.05), while the score on the obsessive-compulsive subscale was otherwise statistically lower (Plt;0.05). With the exception of the hostility subscale, the score on each subscale of the SCL-90 in the urban students was statistically lower than the rural students (Plt;0.05). The median score on the perceived social support subscale was 60.00, with significant differences between the students of different sexes and grades (Plt;0.05). The overall score on the perceived social support subscale was negatively correlated with the SCL-90 score (r= –0.261, Plt;0.05). The score was negatively correlated with the SCL-90 score in the students regarding different sexes, grades and living areas prior to the earthquake (Plt;0.05). Conclusion The middle school students in the disaster regions have prominent psychological problems; perceived social support is helpful to promote the development of their mental health. In conducting psychological intervention, the difference of individuals’ mental health among different student groups should be concerned, so as to carry out targeted counseling and education.

  • Evidence-based Exploration on Long-term Mechanism of Undergraduate Students’ Social Practice in Eight Sichuan Colleges

    Objective To investigate the effective, economic and viable long-term mechanism of Sichuan college students’ social practice. Methods A questionnaire was designed to investigate the students from North Sichuan Medical College and other 7 colleges in Sichuan province randomly. A secondary research of China students social practice status was combined and the results of Sichuan and other areas were compared. Results A total of 2 200 questionnaires were issued, of which 1 920 effective ones were taken back with the recovery rate of 87.27%. The most common forms of social practice were social investigation (47.5%), public welfare labor (42.3%), novitiate/internship (38.7%); the most interesting contents of social practice were social morality education (54.79%), credit morality education (53.07%), professional skill education (51.88%), and near 80% college students thought the contents had close relationships with their major. College students hoped that the contents could combine their job-hunting, characteristics of their major, local economy, and needs of social development. The social practice department they wanted to go most was public welfare or civil service departments (43.7%), corporations (27.8%), and government bodies (19.2%). The most difficult thing was to get connected with target department, shortage of fund, empty topics, hard-to-determine practice projects (44.1%), and lack of teachers’ guidance (43.6%). Degree of satisfaction from the students was moderate. Compared with other universities, social practice of Sichuan undergraduate students had broader coverage and was more closely related to students’ majors with more attention on the combination with moral education and employment. Conclusion Sichuan college students have higher expectations of social practice. However, the range and the time of actual participation are limited. The students are not very satisfied with status of social practice. The social practice of Sichuan college students should give prominence to the local features, be close to the students and serve the local place, strengthen the construction of practice bases, and establish effective systems of teacher training, funding, principle security mechanism and evaluation system.

  • 罗森塔尔效应带教对实习护理学生职业成熟度的影响

    目的 探讨应用罗森塔尔效应带教对实习护理学生(护生)职业成熟度及专业技能的影响。 方法 2011年8月-2012年5月,将95名实习护生随机分为试验组和对照组,试验组依据罗森塔尔效应进行带教,对照组则采用传统带教方法,并应用职业成熟度测评量表及专业技能考核对两组带教效果进行评价。 结果 两组实习护生职业成熟度比较差异有统计学意义(P<0.01);职业技能考核差异有统计学意义(P<0.01)。 结论 罗森塔尔效应带教能够坚定实习护生的职业态度,增强职业信心,提升职业技能,进而促进护理专业的发展。

  • Mental Health Survey of Children and Adolescents after 5·12 Wenchuan Earthquake

    目的:探讨5·12地震灾区11~16岁少年儿童的心理健康状况及其影响因素,为下一步开展创伤后心理危机干预提供依据。方法:在地震发生后一个月,使用长处与困难问卷(SDQ)学生版,调查了1268名来自于灾区的少年儿童(平均年龄14.20±1.02岁,男女比例1:1.02)的心理健康状况及其影响因素。结果:(1)灾区少年儿童SDQ总困难因子平均得分为13.66±5.75,74.9%的人报告自身存在主观困难;(2)女性的总困难因子、情绪因子、亲社会因子得分高于男性(z=-4.317,-7.963,-3.717;Pslt;0.001);(3)困难对少年儿童社会功能的影响程度随年龄增加(χ2=7.684,P=0.021)。年龄越大,多动因子得分有增加的趋势(χ2=13.881,P=0.001);(4)重度暴露组其总困难因子、情绪因子、影响因子得分高于轻度暴露组(z=-2.374,-4.279,-2.114;Pslt;0.05),困难造成的主观精神困扰程度前组高于后组(z=-2.920,P=0.004);(5)女性、高年龄者、教师/同学伤亡较重者、震后被转移至安全的帐篷或房屋的间隔时间越长者,SDQ总困难因子异常的危险性越高。结论:震后灾区少年儿童的心理健康状况受到暴露水平、性别、年龄以及震后被转移至安全地点的时间的影响,心理干预应综合考虑相关因素。

  • Impact Assessment of Health Education on Schistosomiasis among High School Students in Wanzhou Area of Three Gorges Reservoir

    Objective To learn the impact of health education on schistosomiasis among high school students in Wanzhou area of Three Gorges Reservoir, and to evaluate its effects. Methods The stratified multi-level cluster randomized sampling was used to survey 566 high school students in Wanzhou and Yunyang areas, and the questionnaire was used to investigate their recognition of schistosomiasis. Results After one-year health education on schistosomiasis, the passing rate of the knowledge about schistosomiasis prevention among high school students in demonstration area raised from 9.43% to 98.87% (χ2=463.46, P=0.000), which was higher than that of the inside and outside control areas (χ2=312.92, P=0.000); the passing rate of the attitude and belief of schistosomiasis prevention were 98.12%, which was higher than that of the inside and outside control areas (χ2=109.49, P=0.000); 56.02% of high school students in demonstration area had no susceptible behavior of schistosomiasis, which was higher than that of the inside and outside control areas (χ2=237.53, P=0.000). Conclusion Health education on schistosomiasis can efficiently improve the awareness of schistosomiasis prevention among high school students, and has important meanings for controlling potential epidemics and spread of schistosomiasis in Wanzhou area of Three Gorges Reservoir.

  • Investigation with Eysenck Personality Questionnaire and the Influencing Factors on Chongqing Pupils

    Objective To study the personality characteristics of Chongqing pupils and the influencing factors. Methods A cross-sectional survey with Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ, Children’s Version) and Social Support Rating Scales was carried out to investigate 1 110 pupils in Grade 4 to 6 from 7 schools in Chongqing who were selected by means of cluster sampling. Then the score of each EPQ factor was compared with the norm, and the major influencing factors were screened. Results a) The score of each EPQ factor was compared with the national norm. The scores of the introversion and extroversion, and psychoticism in both gender groups aged 9 to 12, the concealment tendency in the girl group aged 9 to 11, and the neuroticism in both gender groups aged above 11, the boy group aged 9 to 10, and the girl group aged above 12 were all lower than those of the norms (Plt;0.05), but the scores of the concealment tendency in the boy groups aged above 9 and above 11, and in the girl group aged above 12 were higher than those of the norms (Plt;0.05); b) The introversion and extroversion were influenced by the factors of residence, grade, family quarrel, praise and encouragement from parents, being praised by teachers in charge, subjective support and the degree of using support. The neuroticism was influenced by the factors of family quarrel, pressure of homework from parents, praise and encouragement from parents, beating and scolding by family, burden of study, and the degree of using support. The psychoticism was influenced by the factors of gender, residence, one-child family nurture, praise and encouragement from parents, beating and scolding by family, criticism by teachers in charge, burden of study, objective support, and the degree of using support. The concealment tendency was influenced by the factors of gender, grade, family quarrel, pressure of homework from parents, praise from teachers in charge, burden of study, subjective support, and the degree of using support. Conclusion The personality characteristics of pupils in Chongqing tend to be introversion and stability in general, which are influenced by various factors such as individual, family and school.
