  • A histological observation on the retinas from neonatal mice of different day-ages

Objective To study the progressive development of the retinas through an observation on the histological changes of the retinas from neonatal mice of different day-ages. Methods The retinas from the mice of 1 to 20 days of age were examined by light microscopy, and from 1 to 3 days,by autoradiography. Results The retinas of the mice below 3 days of age only had the RPE cells layer, the neuroblast layer and the ganglion cell layer. With the increase in dayage, the retinas developed gradually and would be mature in the 20th day. Conclusions The retinas of mice is a kind of immature tissue before the 20th days,so it can be considered as transplantation donors. (Chin J Ocul Fundus Dis, 1999, 15: 174-176)

  • A light and electron microscopy observation of retinal photic injury in mice .

Purpose To observe the pathologic changes of retinal photic injury in mice. Methods A light damaged trunk was designed by ourselves. The mice were given an intermitent light exposure for 3 days,12 hours light exposure every day and 12 hours dark adaption before every exposure.Experimental animals were sacrificed on the 1st,6th,12th,18th and 30th day after light injury, and the eyes were enucleated for light and electronic microscopy observation. Results The early pathologic changes including disc membrance swelling, disorganization in outer segments, and mitochondrial swelling, spherical change in inner segments. Then the chromatin densification, liquefaction and margination, and the shrinkage of nuclear membrance were found in the nuclear layer. Finally the outer nuclear layer became thin and disappeared. The apical microvill of RPE cell disappeared and basic fold became flat in some samples. Conclusion The photoreceptor degeneration was the pathologic characteristic of retinal photic injury in mice. (Chin J Ocul Fundus Dis,1998,14:215-218)

  • A PRELIMINARY STUDY OF ALLOGENIC NEURAL RETINAL TRANSPLANTA- TION IN MICE

OBJECTIVE:To examine the possibility of allogenic neural retinal transplantation. METHODS:Donor neural retinal tissue obtained from neonatal mice was implanted into the subretlnal space of 36 adult mice. Twelve recipients were sacrificed at day 6,day 12,and day 18 post-transplantation respectively, and the eyes were enucleated for histologic examination. RESULTS: The graft was failed to be found but the host retina remained normal in 16.7%(6/36),the graft was found survival and showed further differentiation into rosette formation in the host subretinal space and inner retina in 66.7%(24/36),in the vitreous cavity in 8.3% (3/36). Disastrous granulomatous inflammation occurred in 8.3%(3/36). CONCLUSION: Allogenic retina from neonatal mice implanted into the subretinal space might experience immune privilege .in a great extent ,and showed further differentiation during the experimental periods of time. • Brilliant blue G assisted internal limiting membrane peeling on pathological myopic macular holes with retinal detachment

Objective To evaluate the safety and efficacy of brilliant blue G (BBG) assisted internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling on pathological myopic macular holes with retinal detachment. Methods This is a prospective and noncontrolled study. Twenty-seven high myopia patients (27 eyes) with macular holes and retinal detachment were enrolled. Routine examination was performed, including the best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), intraocular pressure, slit lamp microscope with +90 D pre-set lens, A- or B-ultrasound,optical coherence tomography (OCT) and visual field. All patients received vitrectomy with BBG-assisted ILM peeling and C3F8 gas tamponade. The 5 followup visits were at the first day, the seventh day, the first month, the third month and the sixth month after surgery. The BCVA, intraocular pressure, visual field, macular hole and retinal reattachment were comparatively analyzed. Results The ILM of all patients were peeled completely by BBG staining. There were no major complications such as corneal edema, anterior chamber reaction, elevated intraocular pressure, visual field defects. At the first month after surgery, macular hole closed and retina reattached in 26 eyes (96.3%), the macular hole did not close and retina redetached in one eye (25.9%). At the sixth month after surgery, BCVA of 25 eyes (92.6%) increased, two eyes (7.4%) didnprime;t change, the difference was statistically significant (t=6.08,Plt;0.05).Conclusions BBG can fully stain ILM without any side effects. Vitrectomy with BBG-assisted ILM peeling is a safe and effective treatment for pathological myopic macular holes with retinal detachment.

  • CD36 and metabolic inflammatory diseases

Scavenger receptor CD36 is a transmembrane protein as well as pattern recognition receptor expressed on the surfaces of multiple types of cells such as monocytes, macrophages, microvascular endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells, and platelets. In recent years, studies have found that the expression of CD36 is increased in some diseases, including type 2 diabetes, atherosclerosis, non-alcoholic fatty liver, and obesity. This paper collates the latest progress in the studies of scavenger receptor CD36, illuminates the role of CD36 receptor in metabolic inflammatory diseases by inflammation control, endoplasmic reticulum stress, macrophage phenotype transformation, and insulin resistance, and briefly introduces that CD36 can be a serum marker of metabolic inflammatory diseases, in order to provide potential therapeutic targets for treatment of metabolic inflammatory diseases.
