  • TISSUE TOLERANCE OF DOMESTIC PROSTHETIC MATERIALS IN REPAIRING LARGE DEFECTS OF THE ABDOMINAL WALL (EXPERIMENTAL STUDY IN RABBIT)

    Test of tissue tolerance to domastic prosthetic materials (carbon fiber mesh, siliconized velvet, silk cloth and dacron cloth) as a subcutaneos transplant was performed in the adcominal wall of rabbit. These implants and their surroundding tissues were excied for studies at second , fourth, eighth and the twelfth weeks after operation. Ratio of fibroblast count to inflammatory cells count which is a common parameter of tissue tolerance was calculated in these four groups. The result shows that fibroblastic cell reaction elicited by carbon fiber mesh is the greates among the four prosthetic materials, the second one is dasron cloth. The inflammatory cell reaction elicited by silk is the greatest among the four materials, the second is carbon fiber mesh, and the dacron cloth the least. Tissure tolerance of dacron cloth is the best in the four prosthetic materials for implantation while sick is the worst.

  • APPLICATION OF SILICON RUBBER PROSTHESIS IN THE PLASTIC RECONSTRUCTION OF BREAST

    From March 1986 through March1989 ,silicon rubber prosthesis had been usedfor mammoplasty in 34 patients ( 55breasts) with 53 success and 2 failures. Theindications of surgical treatment , the time tooperate, the mode of implantatioh of prosthe-sis, the selection of prosthesis and the prophy-lactic measures for complications were dis- cussed.

  • CLINICAL USE OF A NEW TYPE OF SILICON IN PLASTIC SURGERY

    A new type of sillicon rebber, which is a semisolid pairof room temperature vuleanizing silicones,has been used in103cases in plastic surgery, including saddle nose, smallchin,and defect of faicial bone. Satisfactory clinical resultswere achieved in 100 cases. Wound infection occured in2cases and the silicon rubber evacuated. The silicon rubberbody was excised because of infection. No adverse reactionwas observed in 64 follow-up cases.

  • Cytotoxicity of a New Type Silicone Rubber for Maxillofacial Prosthesis: an In vitro Evaluation

    This study evaluated the cytotoxicity of a new type silicone rubber for maxillofacial prosthesis, which was developed by the present authors. According to the GB/T16886.5-2003, the samples were prepared and tested with cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) assay, the relative growth rate (RGR) was calculated, and morphology of L929 cells were observed by scanning electron microscope and phase contrast microscope. The results showed that RGR of L929 cells were 91.65% (24 h), 87.03% (48 h), 87.30% (72 h), respectively, and the level of cytotoxicity was grade 1. The L929 cells showed typical fusiform shape and their morphology did not changed significantly after 24 h, 48 h and 72 h. These data indicated that the newly-developed silicone rubber material, as a maxillofacial prosthesis material, should be a safe biomaterial.

  • Application Research on Machine Mixed Silicone Rubber and Alginate for the Oral Cavity Repair Impression

    ObjectiveTo compare the application of impression made with machine mixed silicone rubber and alginate on fixed partial denture. MethodsThe fixed prosthesis oral cavity repair patients were continuously enrolled who visited the department of Oramaxillofacial Surgery of West China Stomatology Hospital, Sichuan University form June 2010 to January 2011. They were randomly divided into two groups (machine mixed silicone rubber group and alginate group). After conventional row for teeth, both materials were used to make impression. Then, bubble condition and its grade caused by dental impression were evaluated. Statistical analysis has performed using SPSS 15.0. ResultsA total of 50 fixed prosthesis oral cavity repair patients were included, of which, 25 were in the machine mixed silicone rubber group and 25 in the alginate group. Compared with alginate, the impression made with machine mixed silicone rubber was higher of grade (Z=-3.890, P < 0.001), smoother (t=4.196, P < 0.001), higher precision than the alginate group. ConclusionCompared with alginate, the mixed silicone rubber for making oral fixed prosthesis machine impression is higher in precision, clearer in the gum line, which is good for late production of denture.
