Objective To observe the characteristics of indocyanine green angiography in exudative age-related macular degeneration. Methods Thirty one cases(36 eyes)were diagnosed as exudative age-related macular degeneration by ocular examination, fundus color photography, fundus fluorescein angiography(FFA)and indocyanine green angiography(ICGA).Their ages ranged from 50 to 82 years. The visual acuities were FC/30cm before eye to 0.7.We analyzed and compared the characteristics of ICGA and FFA in these patients. Results Of 26 eyes with occult choroidal neovascularization(CNV)by FFA,15(57.7%)had classic CNV.Of 4 eyes with serous retinal pigment epithelial detachment(PED)without CNV by FFA,l had serous PED with classic CNV.The hyperfluorescence of the scar stain was defected by ICGA. Conclusion ICGA adds clinically useful information and is important in laser treatment of patients with occult CNV in AMD. (Chin J Ocul Fundus Dis,1998,14:76-80)
Objectives To observe the clinical features of a pedigree of dominant drusen with high supermetropia. Methods Three patients in a family with dominant drusen were retrospectively reviewed. The refractive conditions were confirmed by computer and manual refraction examination with pupils dilated by tropicamide. Color fundus photography and fluorecein angiography were carried out with a FF450 Plus Zeiss camera. The fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA) photos were analyzed. Standard electroretinogram responses (ERGs) were also recorded. The characteristics of refractive condition, color fundus photos, FFA and ERG of the patients were analyzed. Results Various degrees of drusen were observed in the retinae of the three patients. The disease in the younger brother of the proband was mild and in the mother is severe. A large number of drusen existed in the peripheral retina as well as macula in the mother of the proband. FFA revealed window defects corresponding to the drusen. The dilated refractive results showed high supermetropic refractive error in the three patients. All of the eyes except the left eye of the mother of the proband showed refractive amblyopia. The amplitude of the photopic ERGs were decreased but the scotopic ERGs were normal in the younger brother of the proband. The scotopic and photopic ERGs of the proband and her mother were normal. Conclusion Patients with dominant drusen in combinnation with high hypermetropic refractive error and amblyopia may occur.
Objective To characterize the clinical features of punctate inner choroidopathy (PIC) in Chinese patients. Methods The clinical data of 75 PIC patients (112 eyes) attending this center from June 1999 to October 2009 were reviewed retrospectively. All patients received routine examination and fluorescein fundus angiography (FFA). Twentyeight patients also received indocyanine green angiography (ICGA). VISUPAC 3.3 software was used to determine the size of lesions in early image of FFA at the artery stage. Results Of the 75 PIC patients (112 eyes), 54 patients (72%) were female, 37 patients (49%) were bilateral cases. Sixty patients (80%) were myopic, including eight patients (7%) with mild myopia, 22 patients (20%) with moderate myopia, and 57 patients (51%) with high myopia. The mean age at presentation was 32 years (range: 17-61). Multifocal PIC lesions (1-56 lesions) were mostly restricted to posterior pole of affected eyes (95%). Eightyfour eyes (75%) had 10 PIC lesions. The active lesions were yellowwhite and butterlike, 20-500mu;m in diameter. FFA showed that most acute lesions were early hyperfluorescence, and stained or slightly leaked on late period. The atrophic lesions were pouchedout, 502000 mu;m in diameter, with irregular pigmentation. Choroidal neovascularization developed in 70 eyes (63%). Papilledema (three eyes, 3%), staining of optic disc on latephase fluorescein angiography (three eyes, 3%), and segmental retinal phlebitis (two eyes, 2%) were rare. Conclusions PIC primarily affects young women with moderate or high myopia. It is featured by multifocal small yellow creamy lesions and/or atrophic punchedout lesions principally in the posterior pole. Choroidal neovascularization is the most common complication.
Objective To observe the changes of visual acuity and multifocal electroretinogram (mfERG)before and after pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) combined with internal limiting membrane(ILM)peeling with ICG on idiopathic macular hole surgery. Methods The clinical data of 19 patients (19 eyes) with idiopathic macular hole(IMH) who had undergone PPV combined with ILM peeling assisted by 0.25% ICG from Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center were retrospectively analyzed. The closure of macular holes was confirmed by OCT two months after surgery. VERIS Science 4.9 visual evoked response image system was used to record the amplitude density of P1 waves according to six concentric rings before and two, six, twelve months after surgery, meanwhile compared and analyzed best corrected visual acuity(BCVA)before and after surgery. Results The results of OCT showed that 16 eyes (84.21%) had anatomic closure of the macular hole two months after the surgery while three eyes (15.79%) failed in the closure. The BCVA after surgery improved significantly which was more obvious at the second month (F=6.389,Plt;0.05). Compared with before surgery, the responses were depressed severely in P1 wave amplitude densities in six rings, the differences were statistically significant (t=6.140,Plt;0.05). Conclusion The postoperative BCVA of IMH patients improved but the amplitude densities of P1 wave depressed compared with before surgery.
