  • Evidence-based Exploration on Long-term Mechanism of Undergraduate Students’ Social Practice in Eight Sichuan Colleges

Objective To investigate the effective, economic and viable long-term mechanism of Sichuan college students’ social practice. Methods A questionnaire was designed to investigate the students from North Sichuan Medical College and other 7 colleges in Sichuan province randomly. A secondary research of China students social practice status was combined and the results of Sichuan and other areas were compared. Results A total of 2 200 questionnaires were issued, of which 1 920 effective ones were taken back with the recovery rate of 87.27%. The most common forms of social practice were social investigation (47.5%), public welfare labor (42.3%), novitiate/internship (38.7%); the most interesting contents of social practice were social morality education (54.79%), credit morality education (53.07%), professional skill education (51.88%), and near 80% college students thought the contents had close relationships with their major. College students hoped that the contents could combine their job-hunting, characteristics of their major, local economy, and needs of social development. The social practice department they wanted to go most was public welfare or civil service departments (43.7%), corporations (27.8%), and government bodies (19.2%). The most difficult thing was to get connected with target department, shortage of fund, empty topics, hard-to-determine practice projects (44.1%), and lack of teachers’ guidance (43.6%). Degree of satisfaction from the students was moderate. Compared with other universities, social practice of Sichuan undergraduate students had broader coverage and was more closely related to students’ majors with more attention on the combination with moral education and employment. Conclusion Sichuan college students have higher expectations of social practice. However, the range and the time of actual participation are limited. The students are not very satisfied with status of social practice. The social practice of Sichuan college students should give prominence to the local features, be close to the students and serve the local place, strengthen the construction of practice bases, and establish effective systems of teacher training, funding, principle security mechanism and evaluation system.

  • CLINICAL MANIFESTATION AND STRATEGY FOR SURGICAL RESECTION AND RECONSTRUCTION OF THORACOLUMBAR VERTEBRAL OSTEOID OSTEOMA

【Abstract】 Objective To investigate the clinical manifestation of thoracolumbar vertebral osteoid osteoma and to evaluate the surgical procedure and effectiveness of transpedicular tumor resection and spine reconstruction with posterior pedicle screw system and bone graft. Methods Between January 2001 and June 2010, 8 cases of thoracolumbar vertebral osteoid osteoma underwent one-stage transpedicular intralesional excision and bone graft combined with spine reconstruction with pedicle screw system through posterior approach. There were 5 males and 3 females with a median age of 15.5 years (range, 6-27 years). Affected segments included T8 in 1 case, T10 in 1 case, L2 in 2 cases, L3 in 1 case, L4 in 1 case, and L5 in 2 cases. All of the cases had back pain, 1 had radiating pain of lower extremity, and 4 patients presented with scoliosis. The mean diameter of lesions was 1.6 cm (range, 0.9-2.0 cm). Results The mean operation time was 110 minutes (range, 70-170 minutes) and the mean blood loss was 720 mL (range, 300-1 400 mL). The postoperative pathologic examination showed osteoid osteoma in all cases. All patients achieved healing of the incisions by first intention. Immediate relief of pain was observed after operation in all patients without complication. The patients were followed up 12-58 months (mean, 39 months). No local recurrence or spinal deformity was observed during the follow-up. Conclusion CT can show a low attenuation nidus with central mineralization and varying degrees of perinidal sclerosis, so it has great value for final diagnosis of thoracolumbar vertebral osteoid osteoma. One-stage transpedicular intralesional excision supplemented by impaction bone graft and combined posterior pedicle screw stabilization is a safe and effective treatment.

  • Research on The Membrane Surface Nucleolin Participated The Activation of Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor Signaling

Objective To explore the effect of membrane surface nucleolin (NCL) on activation of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) signaling. Methods Immunohistochemistry was used to identify the expressions of membrane surface NCL or EGFR in pallilary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) tissues. The level of phosphorlated EGFR in TPC-1 cells was observed by Western blot. TPC-1 cells invasion capacity was detected by Transwell assay. Results The posi-tive expression rates of membrane surface NCL and EGFR in PTC tissues were 100% (56/56) and 80.4% (45/56) respe-ctively, while the expressions of NCL and EGFR were related with lymph node metastasis (P<0.05). There was posi-tive correlation between the expressions of NCL and EGFR (r=0.635, P<0.01). Western blot showed that anti-NCL or anti-EGFR of TPC-1 cells could inhibit the expression of phosphorlation EGFR (P<0.01). Transwell assay showed the number of membrane-invading cells were reduced significantly in anti-NCL group anti-EGFR group (P<0.01). Conclusions Membrane surface NCL may be a kind of indispensable component in activation of EGFR signaling, by which EGFR can participate in growth and invasion of tumors. NCL can be used as a target for developing a new field of tumor treatment.

  • Comparison of the application of two kinds of iEEG monitoring methods (SEEG vs. SDEG) in patients with “difficult to locate” Intractable Epilepsy

ObjectiveTo explore the advantages and disadvantages of using two intracranial EEG (iEEG) monitoring methods—Subdural ectrodes electroencephalography (SDEG)and Stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG), in patients with “difficult to locate” Intractable Epilepsy. MethodsRetrospectively analyzed the data of 60 patients with SDEG monitoring (49 cases) and SEEG monitoring (11 cases) from January 2010 to December 2018 in the Department of Neurosurgery of the First Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical. Observe and statistically compare the differences in the evaluation results of epileptic zones, surgical efficacy and related complications of the two groups of patients, and review the relevant literature. ResultsThe results showed that the two groups of SDEG and SEEG had no significant difference in the positive rate and surgical resection rate of epileptogenic zones, but the bilateral implantation rate of SEEG (5/11, 45.5%) was higher than that of SDEG (18/49, 36.7%). At present, there was no significant difference in the postoperative outcome among patients with epileptic zones resected after SDEG and SEEG monitoring (P>0.05). However, due to the limitation of the number of SEEG cases, it is not yet possible to conclude that the two effects were the same. There was a statistically significant difference in the total incidence of serious complications of bleeding or infection between the two groups (SDEG 20 cases vs. SEEG 1 case, P<0.05). There was a statistically significant difference in the total incidence of significant headache or cerebral edema between the two groups (SDEG 26 cases vs. SEEG 2 cases, P<0.05). There was a statistically significant difference in the incidence of cerebrospinal fluid leakage, subcutaneous fluid incision, and poor healing of incision after epileptic resection (SDEG 14 cases vs. SEEG 0 case, P<0.05); there were no significant differences in dysfunction of speech, muscle strength between the two groups (P>0.05). ConclusionSEEG has fewer complications than SDEG, SEEG is safer than SDEG. The two kinds of iEEG monitoring methods have advantages in the localization of epileptogenic zones and the differentiation of functional areas. The effective combination of the two methods in the future may be more conducive to the location of epileptic zones and functional areas.
