  • A Survey on Patient Loyalty of Reservation Bed in a Large General Hospital

ObjectivesTo survey the features of reservation bed and investigate the factors of hospital operation which may affect the patient loyalty of reservation bed in large general hospital. MethodsAll patients who reserved bed before July 2013 in hospital service center of a large general hospital were investigated by questionnaire in telephone and collected the basic data. Measurement index was designed to conclude the characteristics of patient loyalty of reservation bed in different departments. Multivariate statistical analysis was used to analyze the influence factors of patient loyalty. ResultsIn the large general hospital, significant difference was found in patient loyalty of reservation bed in different departments. The diversity was mainly impacted by average waiting time of admission, cancelling waiting length, loyalty of patient inside the province, average length of stay, readmission rate on the day of discharge. ConclusionLarge general hospital should pay more attention to dynamic monitoring and disclosure of supply and demand information of bed resources, to improve the management of beds resources and optimize reservation system, to elevate patient's loyalty of reservation bed in hospital.

  • Survey on Disability in Different Elderly Populations in Sichuan Province

ObjectiveTo compare the disability conditions in different elderly populations in Sichuan province in order to get baseline data for further analyses in the future. MethodFrom October 2011 to August 2012, face-to-face interviews were performed by trained investigators in different elderly populations from urban communities, rural communities, acute care wards and rehabilitation wards. The main content of the investigation was the Elderly Disability Assessment Scale (EDAS). ResultsTotally, 1406 subjects were interviewed, among which, 1387 subjects completed the questionnaires. The response rate was 98.7%. The mean age of the participants was (73.8±8.2) years old. Elderly people dwelling in rural areas had a highest disability rate (81.4%), while the correspondent rate in subjects in acute care wards, rehabilitation wards, and urban community were 79.2%, 64.5%, and 53.8%, respectively (P<0.001). In each population, the disability rate increased with age. In the whole sample, most disabled subjects were of mild disability (80.5%). However, those in acute care wards or rehabilitation wards were more likely to have severe or profound disability. ConclusionsThe disability rate and the severity of disability increase with age in different elderly populations in Sichuan province, although most of them are of mild disability. The disability rate is conspicuously higher in the elderly dwelling in rural areas.

  • Comprehensive Evaluation of Biological Activity in Different Passage Populations of Mesenchymal Stem Cells Derived from Bone Marrow in Ovariectomy Osteoporotic Rats

This study aimed to comprehensively evaluate the biological activity in different passage populations of mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) derived from bone marrow in ovariectomy osteoporotic rats (named OVX-rBMSCs), providing experimental basis for new osteoporotic drug development and research. OVX-rBMSCs were isolated and cultured in vitro by the whole bone marrow adherent screening method. The morphological observation, cell surface markers (CD29, CD45, CD90) detection, cell proliferation, induced differentiation experimental detection were performed to evaluate the biological activity of Passage 1, 2, 3, 4 populations (P1, P2, P3, P4) OVX-rBMSCs. The results showed that whole bone marrow adherent culture method isolated and differentially subcultured OVX-The morphology of P4 OVX-rBMSCs was identical fibroblast-like and had the characteristics of ultrastructure of stem cells. The CD29 positive cells rate, CD90 positive cells rate, cell proliferation index, and the osteogenic, adipogenic, chondrogenic differentiation capacities of P4 OVX-rBMSCs were significantly better than those of other populations (P < 0.05). OVX-rBMSCs purity and biological activity were gradually optimized with the passaged, and among them P4 cells were superior to all the other populations. Based on these results, we report that the P4 OVX-rBMSCs model developed in this study can be used to develop a new and effective medical method for osteoporotic drug screening.
