  • NALYSIS OF RATE-LIMITING ENZYMES RELATING TO GLYCOLYTIC PATHWAY IN RETINAL TISSUE OF DIABETIC RATS

Eighteen SD rats with streptozotocin-induced diabetes were observed for the influence of magnesium in glycolytic pathway in their retinal tissue. The diabetic rats were divided into 3 groups:6 of them drank 0.5% Mgso4 solution every day,6 received intramuscular Mgso4 (0.05/kg)in half month interval, and the another 6 drank tape water every day.Six normal rats were employed as employed as nondiabetic control. The activity of the three crucial rate-limiting enzymes ralating to glycolytic pathway-hexokinase,phosphofructokinase and pyruvate kinase in retinal tissue of the rats was investigated after a period of 30days.The results revealed that the levels of the enzymes were significantly depressed in diabetic rats not taking magnesium, while the enzyme levels maintained nearly the same in diabetic rats taking magnesium, while the enzyme levels maintained nearly the same in diabetic rats taking magnesium as in the control group. This suggested that the glycolytic pathway in retinal tissue was disturbed in early stage of diabtes, and magnesium might play an important role in maintaining the normal metabolism of glucose. • Injection Overuse Situation in Health Service Settings in Rural Area of Midwest Part of China

Objective To explore the serious situation of injection abuse, and its influence to average prescription fee. Methods The subjects of this study were health service settings in rural area of 9 provinces/cities in Midwest of China. The treatment prescription indicators of county and village health service settings were calculated. Results Prescription injection rates of health care facility in rural area of Midwest provinces/cities of China (25.8% to 62.2%,mean: 45.1%) were higher than the standard of WHO (13.4% to 24.1%), and the injection abuse situation was serious. Injection bause caused the increase of prescription fee. Excess usage of injection in health service settings was related to the economic level of the on-site county or village, and also related to the size and load of health service facilities. Conclusion Suggestions are proposed to the government health agency according to the results of the study: enhancing the lawmaking, establishing the related policy and effective measure, training the medical personnel, promoting the mass health education, investigating the effective injection management model in rural area, and reducing the rate of injection.

  • Analysis on Clinical Efficacy of Frey Procedure for Chronic Pancreatitis

ObjectiveTo explore clinical efficacy of Frey procedures for chronic pancreatitis. MethodsThirty two patients with chronic pancreatitis who underwent Frey procedures in our hospital from June 2000 to October 2009 were analyzed retrospectively. The rate of perioperative complications, pain relief, and especially endocrine and exocrine function of pancreas in longterm followup (mean 43 months) were analyzed. ResultsNo death occurred in all patients. Fat liquefaction of wound was found in two patients and pancreatic fistula was found in one patient, who was cured by conventional treatment. So the rate of perioperative complications was 9.4%(3/32). After Frey procedures, pain disappeared completely in sixteen patients (50.0%), pain relieved in fourteen patients (43.8%) and two cases were ineffective. Therefore, the rate of pain relief in longterm follow-up was 93.8%. The hospitalization was (11±2) d. After surgical treatment the illness of five patients with diabetes mellitus did not aggravate while new onset of diabetes mellitus was observed in three cases. For three cases who suffered from indigestion and steatorrhea, symptomatic relief was found in one patient treated by oral administration of pancreatin and inefficacy was observed in two cases. But four patients with new steatorrhea were found after operation. ConclusionUnder the strict surgical indications, Frey procedure is a safe and effective surgical method for the treatment of chronic pancreatitis.

  • Meta-Analysis of Rates and Software Implementation

Many meta-analysis studies evaluate rates as parameter to assess the overall estimate of effects. However, none of these studies address systematic approaches for the meta-analysis of rates. This paper outlines the conditions, analysis and software operation procedures for the meta-analysis of rates. It also compares different operation procedures of three types of commonly-used R software (Comprehensive Meta-Analysis, Stata and MetaAnalyst) through real application examples. The biggest challenge for the meta-analysis of rates is to determine whether rates can be pooled, and how to evaluate heterogeneity between studies' outcomes needs further discussion.

  • Complications of knee arthroscopic surgeries in China: a systematic review

ObjectivesTo systematically review the complications of knee arthroscopic surgeries in China.MethodsWe searched PubMed, EMbase, CNKI, WanFang Data and VIP databases to collect cross-sectional studies on the complications of knee arthroscopic surgeries in China from inception to March 1st, 2019. Two reviewers independently screened literature, extracted data and assessed the risk of bias of included studies. Then, meta-analysis was performed by using Stata 12.0 software.ResultsA total of 36 studies involving 20 740 cases were included. The results of meta-analysis showed the incidence rate of complication in knee arthroscopic surgeries in China was 9.71% (95%CI 8.20% to 11.23%). Subgroup analysis showed that the complication incidence rates in the eastern, central and western regions were 10.04% (95%CI 8.00% to 12.14%), 9.67% (95%CI 6.57% to 12.76%) and 7.47% (95%CI 6.20% to 8.73%). The complication incidence rates in the upper first-class and non-upper first-class hospitals were 9.50% (95%CI 7.83% to 11.17%) and 10.95% (95%CI 6.75% to 15.14%). The top 3 complication types with highest incidence rate included joint effusion[2.16% (95%CI 1.44% to 2.87%)], accidental injury of native structures[1.49% (95%CI 0.96% to 2.03%)] and hemorrhage[1.43% (95%CI 1.01% to 1.84%)]. Other severe complications including neurovascular injury, thrombosis diseases and infection were 0.06% (95%CI 0.02% to 0.11%), 0.33% (95%CI 0.19% to 0.48%) and 0.08% (95%CI 0.03% to 0.13%).ConclusionsCurrent evidence shows that the complication incidence rate of arthroscopic surgeries in China is relatively high and the complication type is complex and varied. Due to the quantity and quality of the included studies, more high-quality studies are required to verify the above conclusions in future.
