  • Rehabilitation Treatment Experience for Complex Lower Limb Amputation Caused by Injuring in “4·20” Lushan Earthquake

    ObjectiveTo investigate the effects of early rehabilitation on function of patients undergoing complex lower limb amputation caused by injuring in "4·20" Lushan earthquake. MethodsFrom April 20th to June 30th, 2013, we carried out comprehensive rehabilitation intervention for two patients who had undergone complex lower limb amputation, including physical treatment, exercise treatment, psychological treatment, wound dressing, rehabilitation program, and multiple rehabilitation nursing care. ResultsThrough early comprehensive rehabilitation intervention, patients' pain was relieved, and their muscle strength, activities of daily living (ADL), and balance function had been improved greatly, achieving the goal of installing artificial limb. ConclusionEarly rehabilitation intervention treatment is effective in relieving pain in patients undergoing lower extremities amputation, and improving their muscle strength, ability of ADL and balance function, which can make the patients return to society much better and faster.

  • Progress in experimental research on pulsed electromagnetic field in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis

    With the acceleration of the aging in the world and our society, osteoarthritis has become a health concern for patients and health workers. At present, its treatment mainly relies on drug treatment, surgical treatment and rehabilitation. As a safe, non-invasive and simple treatment, pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) therapy has been used in clinical treatment of osteoporosis, promoting fracture healing and improving symptoms of osteoarthritis. However, the mechanism of PEMF in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis is still unclear. This paper reviews the effects of PEMF on apoptosis, cytokines, cartilage and subchondral bone in knee osteoarthritis in animal experiments, and the changes of chondrocyte morphology and extracellular matrix in cell experiments, aiming to enable medical workers to better understand the status and development of PEMF in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis in basic experimental researches.

  • Progress on rehabilitation treatment of lumbar disc herniation

    Lumbar disc herniation (LDH) is very prevalent in clinical practice. It manifests as low back pain and pain radiating to the leg, followed by disfunction and large family and social cost. Risk factors for LDH include biomechanical stress on the lumbar spine, specifically torsion and hyperflexion, poor posture, obesity, and occupational hazards including heavy manual labor or prolonged driving. Rehabilitation therapy mainly includes bed rest, drug therapy, physical therapy, exercise, manipulation therapy, acupuncture treatment, epidural injection treatment and so on. This review summarizes the current status of epidemiology, clinical features and rehabilitation treatment of LDH so as to improve our understanding of it and to provide a reference for clinical treatment.

    Since its discovery in early 2020, the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has spread rapidly around the world and is now a global challenge. As early respiratory rehabilitation can improve the patient’s respiratory function and quality of life, it deserves proper attention.   • Chinese guideline for the rehabilitation treatment of knee osteoarthritis (2023 edition)

    Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is the most common degenerative joint disease and one of the most disabling diseases in China, causing a huge economic burden to patients, families and society. Standardized KOA rehabilitation treatment is an important means to prevent and treat the disease and promote the development of high-quality medical services. This guideline was updated based on the 2016 and 2019 editions, and was initiated by the Chinese Medical Association Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Branch and West China Hospital of Sichuan University. The guideline development was guided by domestic and international guideline development methods and principles, and 11 core clinical issues in two categories (rehabilitation assessment and treatment) were selected through clinical issue screening and deconstruction, and multiple rounds of Delphi questionnaire consultation. The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) was used as the theoretical framework, and the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GR) was used based on the best available evidence. The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) is a theoretical framework based on the best available evidence, and uses the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) method to grade the quality of evidence and recommendations, and reports them according to the Reporting Items for Practice Guidelines in Healthcare (RIGHT), taking into account patients' preferences and values and the needs of Chinese clinical practice, resulting in 11 key points and 28 recommendations to systematically standardize the rehabilitation of knee osteoarthritis.

    Osteoporosis (OP) is one of the most serious health problems, causing a huge economic burden to patients, families and society. OP rehabilitation treatment plays an important role in pain-relieving, reducing the risk of fracture, improving the ability of daily activities, and promoting the healing of osteoporosis fractures, and has been increasingly valued and recommended by domestic and foreign guidelines. This guideline was updated based on the Chinese expert consensus on rehabilitation intervention for primary osteoporosis 2019 editions, and was initiated by Chinese Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation professor HE Chengqi, Chairman of the Chinese Medical Association Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Branch. This guideline development was guided by domestic and international guideline development methods and principles, and selected through clinical issue screening and deconstruction, and two rounds of Delphi questionnaire consultation. The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) was used as the theoretical framework, and the grading of recommendations assessment, development and evaluation (GRADE) was used based on the best available evidence.
