  • Analysis of Lactate Dehydrogenase Activity and Its Isoenzyme Pattern in Pancreatic Normal Tissue, Carcinoma and Adjacent Non-Cancerous Tissue

Objective To detect the activity of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and LDH isoenzyme, and to explore the relation between biological behavior ofpancreatic cancer and glycolysis. MethodsConsecutive 12 cases of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma and 12 benign lesions such as insulinoma from October 2006 to July 2008 were collected, as well as normal pancreatic tissues. The total activity of the LDH was detected by the LDH testing kits, and the iosenzyme pattern of LDH was inspected by the France Sebia hydrasys. ResultsCompared to the normal tissue, LDH activity ofpancreatic cancer and adjacent non-cancerous tissue was significantly higher (P<0.05). LDH iosenzyme pattern in cancer tissue was also significantly different, the percentage of LDH4 and LDH5 increased obviously, and were greater than that innormal tissue (P<0.05). ConclusionThe alteration of LDH activity and its isoenzyme pattern are possibly related to the pathogenesis of pancreatic cancer. Inhibit the LDH activity may be a new therapeutic strategy.

  • Intra-Abdominal Coeliac Plexus Block to Treat Unresectable Pancreatic Cancer Pain

【Abstract】 Objective The effects and the complications of anhydrous alcohol intra-abdominal coeliac plexus block were studied for treating unresectable pancreatic cancer pain. Methods From Jan.2001 to Sep.2005, 61 patients with severe pancreatic cancer pain and accompanied gastrointestinal tract obstruction were treated by anhydrous alcohol intra-abdominal coeliac plexus block and palliative surgical therapy. Pain-relief, KPS and complications in 3 months after operation were observed. Results The cancer pain in all patients was controlled in one week after the block (P<0.05). KPS was improved (P<0.05). Three months after operation, 45(86.5%) patients were without pain or with only light pain. There were no severe complications. Conclusion Anhydrous alcohol intra-abdominal coeliac plexus block is a method with safe and good effective and less complications for the treatment of pancreatic carcinomatous pain.

  • Effects of Early Hemofiltration on TNF-α and IL-1β in Pigs with Severe Acute Pancreatitis

【Abstract】Objective To study the influence of early hemofiltration on plasma concentrations of proinflammatory cytokines TNF-α and IL-1β and their transcription levels in severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) pigs. Methods The model of SAP was induced by retrograde injection of artificial bile into pancreatic duct in pigs. Animals were divided randomly into two groups: SAP hemofiltration treatment group (HF group, n=8) and SAP no hemofiltration treatment group (NHF group, n=8). TNF-α and IL-1β plasma concentrations were measured by ELISA. Their transcription levels in the tissues of pancreas, liver and lung were assayed by semi-quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. Results After hemofiltration treatment, the plasma concentrations of TNF-α and IL-1β increased gradually but were lower than those of NHF group at the same time spot 〔at 6 h after hemofiltration treatment, (618±276) pg/ml vs (1 375±334) pg/ml and (445±141) pg/ml vs (965±265) pg/ml, P<0.01〕. At 6 h after hemofiltration treatment, the transcription levels of TNF-α and IL-1β in tissues of pancreas, liver and lung were lower than in NHF group (57.8±8.9 vs 85.7±17.4, 48.0±8.1 vs 78.1±10.2, 46.2±9.6 vs 82.4±10.5; 55.9±9.0 vs 82.2±15.7, 40.6±9.2 vs 60.0±10.6, 35.7±9.8 vs 58.1±9.3, P<0.01). Conclusion Early hemofiltration can reduce TNF-α and IL-1β plasma concentrations and transcription levels in SAP pigs.

  • Impacts of Conversion to Open in Laparoscopic Rectal Cancer Radical Resection on Postoperative Recovery

Objective To investigate the impact of conversion to open in laparoscopic rectal cancer radical resection (LRR) on postoperative recovery. Methods The data from Feb. 2003 to Feb. 2007 of 176 cases who were given LRR and 32 cases receiving conversion in LRR (CRR) were analyzed retrospectively, and were compared about operation time, hospitalization time, hospitalization expenses, intraoperative blood loss, recovery time of bowel movement and postoperative complications with 59 cases of open rectal cancer radical resection (ORR). Results There were no differences among LRR, CRR and ORR about operation time, hospitalization time, intraoperative blood loss and recovery time of bowel movement (Pgt;0.05). The hospitalization expenses of LRR and CRR were higher than that of ORR (P=0.001, P=0.001), there was no difference between CRR and LRR (P=0.843). But the postoperative complications rate of ORR was higher than those of LRR and CRR (P=0.023,P=0.004). Conclusion Compared with ORR, LRR has relatively conversion rate, and then increases the hospitalization expenses.
