Objective To investigate the expression of enhancer of zeste homolog 2 (EZH2) mRNA in colorectal cancer tissues, and to explore the relationship with clinicopathological features of it. Methods PCR was used to examine the expression of EZH2 mRNA in colorectal cancer tissues, paracancerous tissues, and normal epithelium tissues of 27 patients with colorectal cancer. Meanwhile, the relationship between the expression of EZH2 mRNA and clinicopathological features of colorectal cancer were analyzed. Results Expression level of EZH2 mRNA in colorectal cancer tissues, paracancerous tissues, and normal epithelium tissues were 3.01±1.29, 1.20±0.69, and 0.87±0.37 respectively, and the expression value of colorectal cancer tissues at the top (P<0.01), but there were no significant difference between the paracancerous tissues and normal epithelium tissues (P=0.403). Expression of EZH2 mRNA were related to TNM stages (P=0.002) and degree of differentiation (P=0.005), but were not related to age (P=0.388), gender (P=0.963), diameter of tumor (P=0.579), histological type (P=0.945), location of tumor (P=0.611), and lymph node metastasis (P=0.449). Conclusions EZH2 mRNA expresses highly in colorectal cancer tissues, so it may play an essential role in the emergence and development of colorectal cancer. EZH2 mRNA can be used as one of the referenced indexes to determine the malignant degree and process of colorectal cancer.
ObjectiveTo summarize controversy and progress of multi-slice spiral CT in efficacy evaluation of transformation therapy for advanced gastric cancer.MethodThe recent studies published at home and abroad on the spiral CT in evaluating the therapeutic effect of transformation therapy for the advanced gastric cancer were reviewed and analyzed.ResultsIn recent years, though the energy spectrum and dual-energy CT examinations had appeared, the most common tool in evaluating of the efficacy of transformation therapy for the advanced gastric cancer was the spiral CT. The most common evaluation standard was still the RECIST standard.ConclusionsSpiral CT has its outstanding diagnostic significance in therapeutic evaluation of transformation therapy for advanced gastric cancer. Although there is some controversy, with advancements of a large number of studies, it will greatly help diagnosis and treatment of advanced gastric cancer.
ObjectiveTo summarize the diagnosis and treatment of a primary gastric colon cancer, and to explore its safety and feasibility.MethodThe clinical data of a patient with gastric cancer and sigmoid colon cancer who admitted to The Affiliated Yantai Yuding Hospital of Qingdao University in October 2017 was analyzed.ResultsThe patient underwent laparoscopic radical gastrectomy plus π anastomosis and laparoscopic radical resection of colon cancer. The operation time was 330 min and the intraoperative blood loss was 120 mL. There were no complications such as stomach cramps and sputum after operation and he was successfully discharged on the 9th day after surgery. Postoperative pathological staging: gastric cancer (pT3N3M0, ⅢB) and sigmoid colon cancer (pT2N0M0, Ⅰ B).ConclusionsMultiple primary cancer of the simultaneous gastric colon should be diagnosed before operation. Laparoscopic minimally invasive treatment for gastric cancer with sigmoid colon cancer is safe and feasible, and can benefit patients.
ObjectiveTo explore the value of multi-slice spiral CT (MSCT) in ycT stage and ycN stage evaluation of patients with locally advanced gastric cancer (cT4bN0-3M0) who underwent surgery after transformation therapy.MethodsClinical data of 32 patients with locally advanced gastric cancer (cT4bN0-3M0) in Affiliated Yantai Yuhuangding Hospital of Qingdao University form January 2017 to April 2019 were retrospective analyzed. All the patients underwent surgery after SOX regimen transformation therapy. Preoperative MSCT plain and enhanced scan were used to evaluate clinical T stage (ycT) and clinical N stage (ycN). The accuracy of MSCT scanning was evaluated by comparing with the gold standard for postoperative pathological ypT stage and ypN stage.ResultsThe accuracy of preoperative MSCT examination on ycT stage after transformation therapy was 78.1% (25/32), and that of ycN was 56.3% (18/32).ConclusionThe accuracy of MSCT in preoperative ycT stage and ycN stage after successful transformation therapy for locally advanced gastric cancer (cT4bN0-3M0) is relatively high.
ObjectiveTo detect expressions of E-cadherin (E-cad) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) tissues and analyze their relationships with clinicopathologic features of patients with GIST.MethodsForty paraffin-embeded specimens of surgical resected GIST from January 2015 to March 2018 in the Pathology Department of Yuhuangding Hospital Affilicated to Qingdao University were retrieved. The expressions of E-cad and VEGF proteins were detected by the immunohistochemical method.ResultsThe positive expression rates of E-cad and VEGF proteins in the GIST tissues were 10.0% (4/40) and 50.0% (20/40), respectively. The positive expression rates of E-cad and VEGF proteins were associated with the tumor diameter, mitotic counts, and risk classification (P<0.05). The positive expression rate of the E-cad was negatively related to that of the VEGF in the GIST tissues (rs=–0.55, P=0.001).ConclusionFrom results of this study, VEGF and E-cad might be related with malignancy of GIST, which might be potential facators in predicting prognosis of GIST.
Objective To evaluate the effectiveness of microplate fixation in open-door cervical expansive laminoplasty (ELP) by comparing with anchor fixation. Methods Between January 2005 and October 2008, 35 patients with multi-segment cervical spondylotic myelopathy were treated. Of them, 15 patients underwent ELP by microplate fixation (microplate group) and 20 patients underwent ELP by anchor fixation (anchor group). In microplate group, there were 10 malesand 5 females with the age of (51.2 ± 11.5) years; the disease duration ranged from 6 to 60 months (mean, 14 months); and the preoperative Japanese Orthopoaedic Association (JOA) score was 7.7 ± 2.5. In anchor group, there were 13 males and 7 females with the age of (50.7 ± 10.8) years; the disease duration ranged from 3 to 58 months (mean, 17 months); and the preoperative JOA score was 7.8 ± 2.9. There was no significant difference in the general data, such as gender, age, and JOA score between 2 groups (P gt; 0.05). Results All incisions healed by first intention. Thirty-five cases were followed up 24-68 months (mean, 32 months). The operation time was (113 ± 24) minutes in anchor group and (111 ± 27) minutes in microplate group, showing no significant difference (t=0.231 3, P=0.818 5). The rate of spinal canal expansion in microplate group (60% ± 24%) was significantly higher than that in anchor group (40% ± 18%) (t=2.820, P=0.008). The JOA scores of 2 groups at 3 months and 24 months after operation were significantly higher than the preoperative scores (P lt; 0.01). There was no significant difference in JOA score between 2 groups at 3 months after operation (t=1.620 5, P=0.114 6), but the JOA score of microplate group was significantly higher than that of anchor group at 24 months after operation (t=3.454 3, P=0.001 5). X-ray film, MRI, and CT scan at 3-6 months after operation displayed that door spindle reached bony fusion. There was no occurrence of ‘‘re-close of door’’ in 2 groups. The rate of compl ication in microplate group (13.3%, 2/15) was significantly lower than that in anchor group (25.0%, 5/20) (χ2=7.160 0, P=0.008 6). Conclusion ELP by microplate fixation can achieve the stabil ity quickly after operation, which can help patients to do functional exercises early, and has satisfactory effectiveness and less complications.
Objective To investigate the effect of methylprednisolone sodium succinate (MP) and mouse nerve growth factor (mNGF) for injection in treating acute spinal cord injury (ASCI) and cauda equina injury. Methods Between December 2004 and December 2007, 43 patients with ASCI and cauda equina injury were treated, including 33 males and 10 females with an average age of 43 years (range, 32-66 years). Injured vertebral columns were C2 in 1 case, C4 in 5 cases, C5 in 7cases, C6 in 3 cases, T8 in 1 case, T10 in 1 case, T11 in 2 cases, T12 in 3 cases, L1 in 9 cases, L2 in 5 cases, L3 in 3 cases, L4 in 1 case, and L5 in 2 cases. All the patients had sensory disturbance and motor dysfunction at admission. The Frankel scale was used for assessment of nerve function, 5 cases were rated as Grade A, 12 as Grade B, 22 as Grade C, and 4 as Grade D before operation. In 43 patients, 23 cases were treated with MP and mNGF (group A), 20 cases with MP only (group B). There was no significant difference in general data between 2 groups (P gt; 0.05). All the patients were admitted, received drug treatment within 8 hours of injury, and were given spinal canal decompression, bone transplantation, and internal fixation within 48 hours. The neurological function score systems of American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) were used for neurological scores before treament, at 1 week and 2 years after treatment. The scores of the activity of daily l iving (ADL) were evaluated and compared. Results All the patients achieved heal ing of incision by first intention. Forty-three cases were followed up 24-61 months with an average of 30 months. Bone graft fusion was achieved after 6-17 months, 11 months on average with stable fixation. No death and compl ications of osteonecrosis and central obesity occurred. There was no significant difference in neurological function scores and ADL scores between 2 groups before treatment (P gt; 0.05); however, the neurological function scores and ADL scores at 1 week and 2 years after treatment were higher than those before treatment (P lt; 0.01) in 2 groups. Group A had higher neurological function scores and ADL scores than group B (P lt; 0.01). At 1 week and 2 years after treatment, the improvement rates of neurological function of group A (47.8%, 11/23 and 91.3%, 21/23) were significantly higher (P lt; 0.01) than those of group B (30.0%, 6/20 and 70.0%, 14/20). Conclusion MP and mNGF play an important role in improving the neurological function in patients with ASCI and cauda equina injury.
Objective To summarize application status of carbon nanomaterial in gastric cancer therapy. Method The relevant literatures about the application of the carbon nanomaterial in the gastric cancer were reviewed. Results The carbon nanomaterial was as a lymph tracer with good effects for dying and tracing, which could improve the number of lymph nodes and the detection rate of metastasis lymph nodes. As be made as a transition of chemotherapy drugs, the carbon nanomaterial could improve the concentration of the drug in the lymph node, then inhibit the gastric cancer cell to spread. Conclusion Carbon nanomaterial provides an effective help in treatment for gastric cancer, but whether it could improve prognosis of patient with gastric cancer remains to be studied.
ObjectiveTo explore the value of multi-slice spiral CT (MSCT) in the judgment of N stage and lymph node metastasis of patients with advanced gastric cancer who underwent surgery after transformation therapy.MethodsClinical data of 27 patients with advanced gastric cancer who underwent surgery after transformation therapy, form July 2017 to July 2019 in Affiliated Yantai Yuhuangding Hospital of Qingdao University were analyzed retrospectively, and all of patients underwent SOX regimen transformation therapy. The MSCT enhanced scan was performed before operation, and the postoperative pathology was used as the gold standard. The preoperative N stage and lymph node metastasis groups were evaluated by MSCT enhanced scan and compared with the pathological results.Results Before the operation, MSCT was used to evaluate the lymph node metastasis of the patients with advanced gastric cancer after transformation therapy, and compared with the lymph nodes metastasis of the corresponding pathological results, the accuracy rates of lymph node groups in No.1, No.3, No.5, No.6, No.7, No.8, and No.16 were 77.78% (21/27), 81.48% (22/27), 85.19% (23/27), 88.89% (24/27), 85.19% (23/27), 74.07% (20/27), and 96.30% (26/27), respectively. Compared with pathological results, the total accuracy of N stage after transformation therapy that evaluated by MSCT was 62.96% (17/27), with the Kappa coefficient was 0.419 (P=0.003).ConclusionsMSCT has high accuracy and consistency for the N stage of advanced gastric cancer after transformation therapy. Besides, MSCT has a certain diagnostic rate for lymph node metastasis in patients with advanced gastric cancer in lymph node groups of No.1, No.3, No.5, No.6, No.7, No.8, and No.16.
