  • Investigation of Nurses' Attitude on the Reporting of Clinical Adverse Events and Analysis on Its Correlated Factors in Emergency Department

    ObjectiveTo investigate nurses' attitude on the reporting of clinical adverse events and analyze its correlated factors in the Emergency Department. MethodsA total of 130 nurses in a class-3 grade-A hospital were recruited in our study by convenience sampling method during November and December 2014. The Chinese version of Reporting of Clinical Adverse Events Scale was applied to assess nurses' attitude on reporting adverse events. ResultsThe nurses' willingness to report adverse events in the Emergency Department was generally low, and the attitude scores of nurses in the triage zone, rescue zone, monitoring zone and observation zone were respectively 65.62±1.16, 65.49±0.58, 65.06±0.80, and 63.20±0.86, without any significant difference among these zones (P>0.05). The attitude scores of nurses with a seniority of 1-2, 3-5, 6-9, and ≥ 10 years were respectively 67.37±3.27, 64.49±3.98, 63.77±4.82, and 64.30±4.52, with significant differences among these seniority groups (P<0.05). The attitude scores of nurses with a rank of nurse-in-charge, primary nurse, and nurse were respectively 61.25±4.02, 63.97±4.52, and 65.92±4.02, also with significant differences among these groups (P<0.05). ConclusionsThe willingness of reporting clinical adverse events in emergency nurses is not high. It is necessary to strengthen the training of nurses on their cognition of adverse events and encourage reporting, thus to create a non-punishment hospital security culture.

  • Function of Emotional Management in Alleviating Job Burnout for Health Care Providers

    ObjectiveTo study whether emotional management can alleviate the occupational burnout of the health care providers. MethodsFrom May 1st 2015 to February 29th 2016, we sampled the medical workers of a class-3 grade-A hospital randomly, and performed the emotional management through self-emotion management and professionals-conducted emotion-management. The discrepancies before and after intervention were studied using Maslach Burnout Inventory General Survey (MBI-GS). ResultsIn total, 100 medical workers were enrolled in our study, of which there were 27 males and 73 females. There were 11 doctors and 89 nurses. The average age was (34.5±5.6) years. According to the MBI-GS survey, there were 69 medical workers suffering from occupational burnout. There were significant statistical differences before and after intervention in the MBI-GS scores in four aspects including emotion exhaustion, work status, sense of achievement and the total scores (P<0.05). ConclusionThe medical workers can alleviate the occupational burnout under the self-management or professionals-conducted management of emotion.

  • The Influence of Flipped Classroom in the Perspective of Student-based Education on Clinical Communication Skills of Student Practical Nurses

    ObjectiveTo explore if flipped classroom in the perspective of student-based education can improve clinical communication skills of student practical nurses in clinical practice. MethodsNursing undergraduate students who practised in a top-level comprehensive hospital between July 2014 and April 2015 were included in this study as the research subjects. Eighty-five student nurses were randomly divided into observation group (n=43) and control group (n=42). Students of the observation group participated in the flipped classroom in the perspective of student-based education, while students of the control group took routine clinical practice. The clinical communication skills of the students in the two groups before and after intervention were measured by using questionnaire survey. ResultsThere were significant improvement in verification experience, effective information delivery, patient problems identifying, listening acuity, harmonious relationship building and joint participation for students in the observation group (P < 0.05). ConclusionsFlipped classroom in the perspective of student-based education can effectively improve clinical communication skills for student practical nurses. It can be used as a method of communication ability training for undergraduate nursing students in clinical practice.
