  • Diagnosis and treatment of intra-abdominal aggressive fibromatosis: a report of 8 cases

Objective The aim of this article is to analyze the clinical characteristics of intra-abdominal aggressive fibromatosis and discuss its treatment methods. Methods Retrospective analysis of the clinical data in 8 cases of intra-abdominal aggressive fibromatosis who were confirmed by surgery and pathological diagnosis between Feb. 2011 and Mar. 2017 in Shengjing hospital was performed. Results Of the 8 cases (3 males and 5 females), there were 4 cases of simple abdominal pain (2 cases of repeated intermittent abdominal pain and 2 cases of acute abdominal pain), 3 cases of abdominal mass, and 1 case of relapses after surgery in outside hospital (others 7 cases were the first visit). The course of disease was 4 to 720 d, with median of 130 d. All cases underwent radical surgery, and the operative time was 92 to 493 min, with an average of 246 min. Intraoperative blood loss was 20 to 1 000 mL, with an average of 321 mL. The drainage tube placement time in all patients was 5 to 9 d, with an average of 6 d. The hospital stay was 11 to 75 d, with an average of 25 d. Two cases suffered from postoperatively appeared abdominal pain symptoms. All cases were followed-up for 6 to 40 months, with median of 23 months. During the follow-up period, 1 case relapsed on 212 dafter surgery, and the remaining 7 cases had no recurrence. Conclusion For intra-abdominal aggressive fibromatosis, it is difficult to make clear diagnosis before operation and surgery is the primary choice of treatment when symptom appeared.

  • High throughput detection and characterization of red blood cells deformability by combining optical tweezers with microfluidic technique

A high throughput measurement method of human red blood cells (RBCs) deformability combined with optical tweezers technology and the microfluidic chip was proposed to accurately characterize the deformability of RBCs statistically. Firstly, the effective stretching deformation of RBCs was realized by the interaction of photo-trapping force and fluid viscous resistance. Secondly, the characteristic parameters before and after the deformation of the single cell were extracted through the image processing method to obtain the deformation index of area and circumference. Finally, statistical analysis was performed, and the average deformation index parameters (\begin{document}$ \overline {D{I_S}} $\end{document}, \begin{document}$ \overline {D{I_C}} $\end{document}) were used to characterize the deformability of RBCs. A high-throughput detection system was built, and the optimal experimental conditions were obtained through a large number of experiments. Three groups of samples with different deformability were used for statistical verification. The results showed that the smallest cell component \begin{document}$ \overline {D{I_S}} $\end{document} was 9.71%, and the detection flux of 8-channel structure was about 370 cells/min. High-throughput detection and characterization methods can effectively distinguish different deformed RBCs statistically, which provides a solution for high-throughput deformation analysis of other types of samples.

  • A multicenter survey on the current status of delirium knowledge among geriatric nurses in Sichuan province

Methods To explore the level of delirium knowledge of geriatric nurses in Sichuan province and analyze the factors, so as to provide the basis for systematic and targeted knowledge training on delirium and clinical management. Methods Using the self-designed “the Questionnaire of Elderly Delirium Knowledge”, geriatric nurses from 22 hospitals in Sichuan province were investigated through a convenient sampling method from September 2018 to February 2019. Results A total of 475 geriatric nurses were investigated. The average delirium knowledge score of the 475 geriatric nurses was 69.51±12.42. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that the main factors affecting the score of delirium-related knowledge were the education of nurses (P=0.037), technical title (P<0.001), years of working in the geriatric department (P=0.001), and the level of working hospital (P=0.001). Conclusions The level of delirium knowledge of geriatric nurses is low and can not meet the needs of clinical work. Nursing managers should carry out delirium knowledge training according to the different characteristics of nurses.

  • Experimental study on temperature dependence of dielectric properties of biological tissues at 2 450 MHz

The temperature dependence of relative permittivity and conductivity of ex-vivo pig liver, lung and heart at 2 450 MHz was studied. The relative permittivity and conductivity of three kinds of biological tissues were measured by the open-end coaxial line method. The dielectric model was fitted according to the principle of least square method. The results showed that the relative permittivity and conductivity of pig liver, pig lung and pig heart decreased with the increase of tissue temperature from 20 to 80 ℃. The relative permittivity and conductivity models of pig liver, pig lung and pig heart were established to reflect the law of dielectric properties of biological tissue changing with temperature and provide a reference for the parameters setting of thermal ablation temperature field.

  • Application of hyperbolic heat transfer model in atrial fibrillation microwave ablation

The effect of relaxation time in hyperbolic heat transfer model on the temperature field of microwave ablation of atrial fibrillation was investigated. And the results were compared with those calculated by Pennes model. A three-dimensional model of microwave ablation of atrial fibrillation was constructed. The relaxation time (τ) was 0, 1, 5, 8, 10, 15 and 20 s, respectively. And the temperature field of myocardial tissue was obtained. The results showed that the highest temperature of the hyperbolic model was 21.8 ℃ lower than that of the Pennes model at the beginning of ablation. With the increase of ablation time, the highest temperature tended to be the same. The lesion dimensions appeared at 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 s, respectively after ablation. Therefore, the influence of hyperbolic model on temperature will decrease with the increase of the ablation time. At the beginning of ablation, the relaxation time will hinder the speed of myocardial thermal diffusion. The larger the relaxation time is, the slower the speed of thermal diffusion is. This study provides a reference for the application of hyperbolic model in microwave ablation of atrial fibrillation.

  • Comprehensive intervention for sarcopenia among older adults: an evidence-based clinical practice guideline

Sarcopenia, characterized by the progressive loss of muscle mass and function, predominantly afflicts older adults. This condition is a notable risk factor for functional impairments, increased incidence of falls and fractures, and can escalate to mortality. Timely intervention is crucial to mitigate disability and minimize complications during hospitalization. The development of these guidelines adhered to an internationally recognized standard protocol. This involved framing clinical queries, pinpointing key outcomes, systematically gathering evidence, and appraising this evidence through the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) framework. Subsequently, a consortium of experts convened to deliberate over the evidence, culminating in the formulation of these recommendations.
