ObjectiveTo investigate the effect of posture nursing by specially-assigned person and psychological nursing on patients after vitrectomy combined with intraocular silicone oil tamponade. MethodsFrom February 2012 to February 2013, traditional nursing method or posture nursing by specially-assigned person and psychological nursing was carried out respectively for 140 patients who had undergone vitrectomy and intraocular silicone oil tamponade. Adverse effects and retina reattachment effect were compared between the two nursing methods. ResultsAdverse effects after the surgery were significantly fewer in the experimental group than in the control group (P<0.05). The number of patients with retina reattachment in the experimental group was significantly higher than that in the control group (P<0.05). ConclusionPosture nursing by specially-assigned person and psychological nursing reduce postoperative adverse consequences significantly, and achieve the expected operative effect.
ObjectiveTo investigate the prevalence and risk factors for hypertensive women in Chengdu communities, as well as the urban-rural differences. MethodsCluster random sampling method was used. Cross-sectional data on questionnaire for physical examination and laboratory tests were collected from study of 1 202 women in urban and rural Chengdu between February and October 2010. ResultsThis study enrolled the total of 1 202 women aged from 35 to 70 in Chengdu communities, where 616 were from urban areas and 586 from rural areas. Of them, 402 had hypertension with an overall prevalence rate of 33.44% and with the standardized prevalence of 35.27%. The prevalence of hypertension in urban women (42.86%) was higher than that of rural women (23.55%); the difference was statistical (χ2=13.057, P<0.001). The prevalence of hypertension increased with the age increase. The highest cardiovascular risk factors coexisted with hypertensive women was high waist circumference (abdominal obesity), followed by triglyceride (33.33%), total cholesterol (TC) (33.08%), impaired glucose tolerance (38.86%), impaired fasting glucose (IFG) (24.38%), body mass index (16.67%), and high density lipoprotein cholesterol (0.75%). The urban hypertensive women had higher the ratio and average of high waist circumference, IFG and TC than thoes from rural areas with a statistically difference (P<0.05). ConclusionHypertension prevalence in women from rural areas is higher than that in women from urban areas. The urban hypertensive women has higher ratio of risk factors than thoes from rural areas.
The training of clinical teachers of general medicine is a key part of the construction of general medicine in our country. However, there is no existing mode for reference. West China Hospital of Sichuan University has completed one of the "Key National Public Health Projects-Training of Clinical Teachers of General Medicine in Sichuan Province". The project has searched for proper way in designing the teaching mode, organizing teaching resources, teaching evaluation and feedback, and training monitoring and management. Problems encountered during the process were analyzed and discussed for corresponding countermeasures. We believe this could be an experience for the future training to improve the quality in training clinical teachers of general medicine.
ObjectiveTo investigate the prevalence of impaired glucose regulation (IGR) and IGR combined with cardiovascular risk factors in rural areas of Chengdu City. MethodsFrom February to October 2010, we randomly sampled 1 016 patients in a rural community 100 kilometers away from the city center as the study subjects. The investigation was carried out by using questionnaire survey, physical examination and laboratory tests. The standard 75 g oral glucose tolerance test was used. ResultsA total of 1 016 subjects were investigated, among whom there were 431 males and 585 females with an average age of 56 years old. Of these subjects, 333 were diagnosed to have IGR with a rate of 32.77% (333/1 016). The age-adjusted standardized prevalence of pre-diabetes in rural areas in Chengdu was 32.52% (336/1 016), and the male and female prevalence were respectively 30.63% (132/431) and 34.36% (201/585) without significant difference (χ2=1.569,P=0.210). Impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) was the most common type of glycometabolism abnormality. Women had a significantly higher prevalence of IGT than men. In IGR population, major cardiovascular risk factors were overweight and obesity (40.8%), high low density lipoprotein cholesterol (38.4%), high triglyceride (30.3%), hypertension (23.7%), smoking (24.3%), and drinking alcohol (23.7%). The stratified analysis showed that the prevalence of overweight, obesity and low high density lipoprotein cholesterol in female was significantly higher than that in males, while the prevalence of smoking and drinking alcohol was significantly higher in males. ConclusionIn rural areas, the prevalence of pre-diabetes is high and complicated with multiple cardiovascular risk factors.
ObjectiveTo explore the association of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) degeneration with intercondylar notch impingement and the medial meniscus tear in knee osteoarthritis (KOA). MethodsBetween July 2014 and February 2016, 55 KOA patients (55 knees) with ACL degeneration (degeneration group) and 55 KOA patients (55 knees) without ACL degeneration (control group) were included in the study. No significant difference was found in gender, age, body mass index, and side between 2 groups (P > 0.05). The notch width index was measured on preoperative MRI to evaluate whether the intercondylar notch was narrow. The location of the medial and lateral meniscus tear and osteophyte of the ACL tibial insertion were observed under arthroscopy, and the incidences of the meniscus tear and osteophyte were calculated. ResultsThere was no significant difference in anterior horn and body tear of the medial meniscus and in anterior horn, body, posterior horn, and root tear of the lateral meniscus (P > 0.05). Significant difference was found in the posterior horn and root tear of the medial meniscus, osteophyte of the ACL tibial insertion, narrow intercondylar notch, and the notch width index between 2 groups (P < 0.05). The incidence of root tear of the medial meniscus was 53.8% (7/13) in 13 knees with osteophyte of the ACL tibial insertion and was 16.5% (16/97) in 97 knees without osteophyte, showing significant difference (χ2=9.671, P=0.002). ConclusionThere is a strong association of ACL degeneration with posterior horn and root tear of the medial meniscus and intercondylar notch impingement in KOA. And the high incidence of root tear of the medial meniscus in knee is correlated with osteophyte of the ACL tibial insertion.
