Clinical research reports are the main form of clinical evidence. Based on the requirements of clinical research reports and the characteristics of clinical research on traditional Chinese medicine, it is an important basic systematic project to construct a standardized system of clinical curative effects study report on Chinese medicine. This article elaborates existing problems, focus of attention and construction process in order to help promote the improvement of clinical curative effects research report on Chinese medicine, provide more high-quality evidences for clinical decision-making and promote the development of Chinese medicine.
Day surgery is a new mode of diagnosis and treatment, and is greatly honoured and rewarded abroad. In China, day surgery begins rather later, but it has been gradually spread and applied in some large hospitals for its shorter hospital stay and less hospitalization cost. Day surgery management is a process including admission, operation, and discharge that should be finished within 24 hours, so the guarantee of medical quality and patient safety is principal factor of sustainable development influencing day surgery. This paper introduces the specifications for the quality and safety management of day surgery in West China Hospital of Sichuan University, to regulate and promote the application of day surgery, and further improve the medical quality and safety of day surgery.
Objective To define an objective evaluation model for metadata integrity of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and to evaluate the data integrity of RCT reports published in TCM journals. Methods Retrieving Chinese medicine RCT literature and extracting data, using the metadata specification list and customized evaluation model defined in the project "Intelligent Construction and Application Demonstration of the Evidence System of Chinese Medicine Dominant Diseases" to analyze RCTs from the perspective of data integrity. Results A metadata interface specification and an objective evaluation model for RCT metadata integrity were proposed. A total of 37 361 articles of 10 diseases from 1986 to 2020 were evaluated. Among them, 6 743 reports failed to meet the basic requirements of metadata specifications. The proportion of reports with no missing required items was between 73% and 97%. "tcm_disease" and "num_drop_total" had a greater impact on completeness for the required items. The reporting rates of the items in the "age_sd" and "history_sd" in the "group" section, and "dosage", "dosage_form" and "dosage_freq" in the "interventions" section were low. The average score of RCT report was 71.39 points. Conclusions There is room for improvement in the integrity of RCT data in TCM, and data reporting is urgently required to be standardized. The metadata specification and completeness objective evaluation model proposed in this study can provide references for improving the data integrity of clinical trial reports of TCM.
The preferred reporting items for comprehensive evaluation of Chinese patent medicine (PRICE-CPM) were developed, and comprised six domains, 21 items and 72 sub-items. The EQUATOR collaboration network for the formulation and revision of reporting specifications was referred to and the final report list items were established by adopting the literature analysis method, the expert committee discussion and the Delphi method, and considering the characteristics of CPM evaluation.
With the increasingly prominent contradiction between limited health resources and the growing population, priority setting of health research, as a response, has received widespread attention from health systems worldwide. As the results of priority setting at different levels increase year by year, some questions in the results reporting are also constantly emerging. For example, the process of producing the results is vague, too dependent on individual subjective judgment, the participation of individual stakeholder groups is limited or lack of voice, unable to identify potential conflicts of interest, and so on. It does not only seriously affect the effectiveness and rationality of the results themselves, but also create intangible obstacles to their promotion and adoption. In 2019, BMC Medical Research Methodology published ‘Reporting guideline for priority setting of health research (REPRISE)’, which makes uniform specifications for more comprehensive and consistent reporting of results in priority areas. This paper interpreted the background, formulation process and key contents of the REPRISE guideline, with an aim to promote the application of the reporting guideline in China.
According to the needs of CT image evaluation for transapical transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), 20 clinical questions were proposed by the Delphi method, 15 questions were initially determined, and 12 clinical questions were summarized and determined by domestic experts. PubMed, Web of Science, Wanfang, and CNKI databases were searched by computer to collect the relevant literature from inception to November 2022, and finally 53 studies were included. Based on evidence-based study and evaluation experience, 3 meetings were held to give recommendations for preoperative CT data acquisition method, preoperative imaging evaluation of aortic root, imaging evaluation of transapical approach, preoperative auxiliary guidance of TAVR by CT images combined with 3D printing, and postoperative imaging evaluation of transapical TAVR, hoping to promote the standardized and successful development of transapical TAVR in China.
Technology in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), which has a long history, provides excellent traditional culture and valuable spiritual wealth in China. TCM standardization technology will provide an important basis for guiding and evaluating the professional level and service quality of technicians in TCM. And it is also conducive to the sustainable development of TCM technology. However, at present, there is no relevant research on the development process of technical specifications for TCM. So, the urgent need is how to develop standardized technical specifications, and apply them to patients in practice. Therefore, this study first convened relevant experts, including TCM clinical experts, epidemiologists, methodology experts, etc., to form the core expert group, implementation group and quality assurance task group. According to the personnel functions, they are divided into technical specification steering committee, consensus expert group, secretariat group, external review group, evidence evaluation group, etc. Then, the initial entries are collected by systematically searching the current TCM technical guidelines, consensus and specifications and referring to the existing technical specifications. Finally, expert opinions were collected based on the Delphi survey, and the final reporting checklist of technical specifications for TCM was formed after consensus discussion. The study can provide evidence-based methodological guidance for the development of TCM technical specifications, and promote the standardization and internationalization of TCM technical specifications.
ObjectiveTo systematically sort out acupuncture therapy research report specification issues and provide a reference for the selection of key problems in the specification of acupuncture therapy network meta-analysis reports. MethodsComputer searches of PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, CNKI, WanFang Data, and VIP databases were conducted to collect studies related to reporting norms for acupuncture therapy, with a search time from inception to November 2022. Questions were constructed according to the SPIDER model and inclusion and exclusion criteria were developed. CASP was used to evaluate the methodological quality of the included literature, and a qualitative systematic evaluation thematic synthesis method was used to analyze, summarize, and integrate the questions on reporting norms for acupuncture therapy research evidence to create a pool of question entries. ResultsA total of 66 papers covering four countries were included, including 17 papers from qualitative studies and 49 papers from quantitative studies. The CASP evaluation results showed that the overall quality of the included studies was high, and the quality of the English studies was higher than that of the Chinese studies. The thematic synthesis method resulted in 22 question entries in 7 categories. The 7 categories of questions included title, abstract, preface, methods, results, discussion and other report specification questions. The 22 entries included "Is there a need to report specific types of acupuncture therapy", "Is there a need to report based on the type of original study and its number", etc. ConclusionThere are many problems with reporting norms in existing acupuncture studies, so it is necessary to collate and summarize the key issues of reporting norms for acupuncture network meta-analysis to provide a scientific and theoretical basis for the development of reporting guidelines for acupuncture network meta-analysis.
Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB) was recommended as the gold standard procedure for metabolic and bariatric surgery by the National Institutes of Health in the 1990s and then had been adopted till now, which could effectively control excess weight and treat metabolic diseases relevant to obesity in a long term. The current LRYGB procedure had been performed more than half a century of development and update, and is still constantly evolving. Standardized and precise surgical procedures are of great significance in ensuring treatment effect and reducing the incidence of complications. Thus, the author reviewed the development process of LRYGB, further understanding and emphasizing the importance of standardized and precise surgical procedures.
