  • Automatic Sleep Staging Method Based on Energy Features and Least Squares Support Vector Machine Classifier

The research of sleep staging is not only the basis of diagnosing sleep related diseases, but also the precondition of evaluating sleep quality, and has important clinical significance. In recent years, the research of automatic sleep staging based on computer has become a hotspot and made some achievements. Feature extraction and feature classification are two key technologies in automatic sleep staging system. In order to achieve effective automatic sleep staging, we proposed a new automatic sleep staging method which combines the energy features and least squares support vector machines (LS-SVM). Firstly, we used FIR band-pass filter to extract the energy features of Pz-Oz channel sleep electroencephalogram (EEG) signals, and compared them with those from wavelet packet transform method. Then we designed an LS-SVM classifier to realize the automatic sleep stage classification. The research showed that FIR band-pass filter (with the Kaiser window) performed better than wavelet packet transform (WPT) for energy feature extraction just in terms of the data from the Sleep-EDF Database and the LS-SVM classifier (with the RBF Kernel function) designed was good, and the automatic sleep staging method proposed in this paper was better than many similar methods from other studies with an average accuracy of 88.89% and had a very prosperous application future.

  • Automatic Classification of Epileptic Electroencephalogram Signal Based on Improved Multivariate Multiscale Entropy

Traditional sample entropy fails to quantify inherent long-range dependencies among real data. Multiscale sample entropy (MSE) can detect intrinsic correlations in data, but it is usually used in univariate data. To generalize this method for multichannel data, we introduced multivariate multiscale entropy into multiscale signals as a reflection of the nonlinear dynamic correlation. But traditional multivariate multiscale entropy has a large quantity of computation and costs a large period of time and space for more channel system, so that it can not reflect the correlation between variables timely and accurately. In this paper, therefore, an improved multivariate multiscale entropy embeds on all variables at the same time, instead of embedding on a single variable as in the traditional methods, to solve the memory overflow while the number of channels rise, and it is more suitable for the actual multivariate signal analysis. The method was tested in simulation data and Bonn epilepsy dataset. The simulation results showed that the proposed method had a good performance to distinguish correlation data. Bonn epilepsy dataset experiment also showed that the method had a better classification accuracy among the five data set, especially with an accuracy of 100% for data collection of Z and S.

  • Recognition of Low Arousal Level Electroencephalogram in the Vigilance Based on Wavelet Packet Rhythm and Support Vector Machine

Poor and monotonous work could easily lead to a decrease of arousal level of the monitoring work personnel. In order to improve the performance of monitoring work, low arousal level needs to be recognized and awakened. We proposed a recognition method of low arousal by the electroencephalogram (EEG) as the object of study to recognize the low arousal level in the vigilance. We used wavelet packet transform to decompose the EEG signal so the EEG rhythms of each component were obtained, and then we calculated the parameters of relative energy and energy ratio of high-low frequency, and constructed the feature vector to monitor low arousal state in the operation. We finally used support vector machine (SVM) to recognize the low arousal state in the simulate operation. The experimental results showed that the method introduced in this article could well distinguish low arousal level from arousal level in the vigilance and it could also get a high recognition rate. Have been compared with other analysis methods, the present method could more effectively recognize low arousal level and provide better technical support for wake-up mechanism of low arousal state.

  • Recognition of fatigue status of pilots based on deep contractive auto-encoding network

We proposed a new deep learning model by analyzing electroencephalogram signals to reduce the complexity of feature extraction and improve the accuracy of recognition of fatigue status of pilots. For one thing, we applied wavelet packet transform to decompose electroencephalogram signals of pilots to extract the δ wave (0.4–3 Hz), θ wave (4–7 Hz), α wave (8–13 Hz) and β wave (14–30 Hz), and the combination of them was used as de-nosing electroencephalogram signals. For another, we proposed a deep contractive auto-encoding network-Softmax model for identifying pilots' fatigue status. Its recognition results were also compared with other models. The experimental results showed that the proposed deep learning model had a nice recognition, and the accuracy of recognition was up to 91.67%. Therefore, recognition of fatigue status of pilots based on deep contractive auto-encoding network is of great significance.
