In order to improve the accuracy and reliability of the electrodes implant location when using spinal functional electrical stimulation to rebuild hindlimb motor function, we measured the distributions of function core regions in rat spinal cord associated with hindlimb movements. In this study, we utilized three-dimensional scanning intraspinal microstimulation technology to stimulate the rat spinal cord to generate hip, knee and ankle joint movements, and acquired the coordinates of the sites in spinal cord which evoked these movements. In this article, 12 SD rats were used to overcome the individual differences in the functional region of the spinal cord. After normalized and overlaid the messages, we obtained the function core regions in spinal cord associated with ankle dorsiflexion movement, hip flexion movement, hip extension movement and hip adduction movement. It provides a reference for rebuilding the hindlimb movement function with micro-electronic neural bridge.
Detecting and imaging method of biological electrical characteristics based on magneto-acoustic coupling effect gives valuable information of tissue in early tumor diagnosis and bioelectrical current monitoring. Normal exciting and receiving method is to use single pulse. In this method the signal to noise ratio (SNR) is limited, so the imaging quality and imaging speed are low. In this study, we propose a processing method based on coded excitation to improve SNR and shorten the processing time. The processing method using 13 bit Barker coded excitation and 16 bit Golay code excitation are studied by simulation and experiments. The results show that SNR of magneto-acoustic signal is improved by 20.96 dB and 20.62 dB by using 13 bit Barker coded and 16 bit Golay coded excitation, respectively. It also indicates the processing time is short compare to single pulse mode. In the case of the SNR increasing, the overall acquiring and processing time under 13 bit Barker coded excitation and the 16 bit Golay coded excitation is shortened to 3.62% and 4.73%, respectively, compared to the single pulse excitation with waveform averaging method. In conclusion, the coded excitation will be significant for the improvement of magneto-acoustic signal SNR and imaging quality.
Real-time continuous glucose monitoring can help diabetics to control blood sugar levels within the normal range. However, in the process of practical monitoring, the output of real-time continuous glucose monitoring system is susceptible to glucose sensor and environment noise, which will influence the measurement accuracy of the system. Aiming at this problem, a dual-calibration algorithm for the moving-window double-layer filtering algorithm combined with real-time self-compensation calibration algorithm is proposed in this paper, which can realize the signal drift compensation for current data. And a real-time continuous glucose monitoring instrument based on this study was designed. This real-time continuous glucose monitoring instrument consisted of an adjustable excitation voltage module, a current-voltage converter module, a microprocessor and a wireless transceiver module. For portability, the size of the device was only 40 mm × 30 mm × 5 mm and its weight was only 30 g. In addition, a communication command code algorithm was designed to ensure the security and integrity of data transmission in this study. Results of experiments in vitro showed that current detection of the device worked effectively. A 5-hour monitoring of blood glucose level in vivo showed that the device could continuously monitor blood glucose in real time. The relative error of monitoring results of the designed device ranged from 2.22% to 7.17% when comparing to a portable blood meter.
Functional electronic stimulation (FES) may provide a means to restore motor function in patients with spinal cord injuries. The goal of this study is to determine the regions in the spinal cord controlling different hindlimb movements in the rats. Normalization was used for the regions dominating the corresponding movements. It has been verified that FES can be used in motor function recovery of the hindlimb. The spinal cord was stimulated by FES with a three-dimensional scan mode in experiments. The results show that stimulation through the electrodes implanted in the ventral locations of the lumbosacral enlargement can produce coordinated single- and multi-joint hindlimb movements. A variety of different hindlimb movements can be induced with the appropriate stimulation sites, and movement vectors of the hindlimb cover the full range of movement directions in the sagittal plane of the hindlimb. This article drew a map about spinal cord motor function of the rat. The regions in the spinal cord which control corresponding movements are normalized. The data in the study provide guidance about the location of electrode tips in the follow-up experiments.
The existing retinal vessels segmentation algorithms have various problems that the end of main vessels are easy to break, and the central macula and the optic disc boundary are likely to be mistakenly segmented. To solve the above problems, a novel retinal vessels segmentation algorithm is proposed in this paper. The algorithm merged together vessels contour information and conditional generative adversarial nets. Firstly, non-uniform light removal and principal component analysis were used to process the fundus images. Therefore, it enhanced the contrast between the blood vessels and the background, and obtained the single-scale gray images with rich feature information. Secondly, the dense blocks integrated with the deep separable convolution with offset and squeeze-and-exception (SE) block were applied to the encoder and decoder to alleviate the gradient disappearance or explosion. Simultaneously, the network focused on the feature information of the learning target. Thirdly, the contour loss function was added to improve the identification ability of the blood vessels information and contour information of the network. Finally, experiments were carried out on the DRIVE and STARE datasets respectively. The value of area under the receiver operating characteristic reached 0.982 5 and 0.987 4, respectively, and the accuracy reached 0.967 7 and 0.975 6, respectively. Experimental results show that the algorithm can accurately distinguish contours and blood vessels, and reduce blood vessel rupture. The algorithm has certain application value in the diagnosis of clinical ophthalmic diseases.
The operation mode of scientific research incentive mechanism in West China Hospital of Sichuan University is closely connecting individual needs with organizational objectives, and coordinating and adjusting again through communication and feedback. It can play an incentive role continuously and actively promotes the development of hospital scientific research. But the incentive mode, research funding management, research output rate, strengthening of effective communication and other aspects need to be constantly optimized and improved. Based on Porter Lawler’s comprehensive incentive theory, this paper explores and summarizes the operation mode of scientific research incentive mechanism in West China Hospital of Sichuan University. The interrupted time series analysis was used to evaluate the incentive effect of the management methods of the SCI thesis fund for scientific research in West China Hospital of Sichuan University. We found an increase in number of the SCI papers and the growth rate after the adoption of scientific research incentive measures, indicating that the management methods of the SCI thesis fund had the incentive effect of scientific research. The interrupted time series analysis could be used in the incentive analysis of scientific research.
Magneto-acoustic-electric tomography (MAET) boasts high resolution in ultrasound imaging and high contrast in electrical impedance imaging, making it of significant research value in the fields of early tumor diagnosis and bioelectrical monitoring. In this study, a method was proposed that combined high conductivity liquid metal and maximum length sequence (M sequence) coded excitation to improve the signal-to-noise ratio. It was shown that, under rotational scanning, the liquid metal significantly improved the signal-to-noise ratio of the inter-tissue magneto-acoustic-electric signal and enhanced the quality of the reconstructed image. The signal-to-noise ratio of the signal was increased by 5.6, 11.1, 21.7, and 45.7 times under the excitation of 7-, 15-, 31-, and 63-bit M sequence code, respectively. The total usage time of 31-bit M sequence coded excitation imaging was shortened by 75.6% compared with single-pulse excitation when the same signal-to-noise ratio was improved. In conclusion, the imaging method combining liquid metal and M-sequence coding excitation has positive significance for improving MAET image quality.
